Heresy Era Alpha Legion update!

I put my 30k Alpha Legion army on hold over Christmas as, well, I didn't really have the time for much hobby sadly. Now that I'm back at University though I've finally got a bit more free time (ironically) to work on painting the army and so I've decided to start on the Cataphractii Terminators that come in the Betrayal at Calth set.


To be honest I hadn't planned on including Terminators in my first 2500 point list but after painting the Terminator Character from the Betrayal at Calth set, they've really started to grow on me. The idea of these heavily armoured, and elite, warriors smashing through their opponents battle lines is just too badass to ignore so they could end up making the cut...


I personally prefer the Tartaros Pattern Terminator armour as I like the more advanced design since, fluff wise, it was developed in tandem with the Mk IV 'Maximus' pattern Power Armour, which is also my favourite mark of power armour. That's not to say I don't like Cataphractii pattern Terminator armour, it is supposed to be the more heavily armoured of the two, represented in game by having an invulnerable save of 4+ rather than the standard 5+.


I have assembled the squad to be equipped with 4 power fists and one chainfist, as well as 5 combi-bolters. They will be led by the Terminator character model that comes with the set, who will be the squad Sergeant. Only 1 model has been fully painted so far and the other 4 are works in progress atm but hopefully I should have them done shortly. Till next time!

    I really like the basecoat colour on this, can I ask how you did it?

      I’m glad you like it although I can’t claim the credit for it as I borrowed it from Miniwargaming Leland who used it to paint up some fabulous looking Chaos Knights.

      The scheme is relatively simple to achieve;
      • Prime Black with Chaos Black Spray
      • Coat of Incubi Darkness
      • Coat of Syrabyte Green
      • Dry Brush Skink Blue
      • Finally, glaze the model with Guillimon Blue

      It makes a nice, if somewhat dirty, looking effect. Make sure to keep the layers of Incubi and Syrabyte thin, its best to apply two thin layers than one thick one as this will avoid clogging any detail. Be careful when drybrushing with Skink Blue as well and don’t go overboard, build it up slowly until you’re happy with it. Only apply one coat of the glaze and leave it for a while as I find the colour takes a while to come out, don’t be tempted to apply a second layer or the model will turn too blue!
